Iran, Iraq can take steps to help resolve regional issues: security chief

TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani has said that Tehran and Baghdad can take steps to help resolve regional and international issues.

Shamkhani made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi Defense Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi in Tehran on Wednesday.

Commenting on regional developments, he said that the spread of terrorism and insecurity in the region was meant to serve the interests of the hegemonistic system and the Zionist regime.

He also called for increased unity among regional countries to help combat instability and prevent foreign intervention in the region.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that Iran was ready to expand its strategic cooperation with Iraq in all areas.

The Iraqi official, for his part, said, “The countries which spark fire in Iraq and other countries will be engulfed by the flames themselves.”
